Yes, definitely! As we all know that nowadays, the pollution is getting from bad to worse, this affects the pipe water quality too. If left unwashed for long time, the water pipes will become the hot bed for breeding microcystins, virus and bacteria, Escherichiacoli & Enterovirus etc. Furthermore, heavy metals e.g leads, arsenic, cadmic and mercury etc., tend to accumulate in the water pipes. These heavy metals will not only harm your health but also reduce the water flow and even clog the water pipes!
Dirt will accumulate in the water pipes regardless of their materials. The longer the time it is left unwashed, the more dirty it will get. It depends on the water quality in various regions! Generally, it should be cleaned once a year. If the house is installed with whole house water purification system, then the cleaning of the pipes can be delayed for 1-2 years！
The main function of the water filter is to filter out the particles in the water, but it can’t filter out and remove the toxic trace elements as well as the bacterial which deposit in the tap water. Using water filter alone will not cleanse the polluted water thoroughly. In order to have clean and healthy water, cleaning the inner wall of the tap-water pipes is the only way to treat the root cause of the pollution. Moreover, cleaning the tap-water pipes prolongs the lifespan of the candle inside of water filter hence making the water purification more effective!
All the tap-water will go through chlorination and disinfection process. During this process, chlorine tends to react with the organic compound (e.g algae etc) and produce volatile halogenated hydrocarbon. This includes trihalomethane, chloroform, Bromodichloromethane and Dibromo-monochloro-methane. Tests performed on the animals proof that all these elements have mutagenic and cancer-causing effects while some cause malformation and (or) are toxic to the nerves which lead to tumors in the liver, kidney and colons. Unfortunately, all these formations cannot be effectively removed with the current limitation of technology and economy. However, the formation of volatile halogenated hydrocarbon can be much reduced by removing the precursor in the water pipes. This will effectively reduce the incidence of cancer.
